The Cherokee were very well known for their different types of arts. One of their major leisure’s was making woven baskets out of cane. A lot of the time the baskets had color added to them. The materials used for dye were: black walnut and *bloodroot.
This tribe was also very into dance. To make things a little more festive, the Cherokee spent time on the creation on beautiful dance masks that were worn during celebrations. Other arts they really enjoyed were pottery and carving soapstone.
*bloodroot: perennial, herbaceous flowering plant native to eastern North America from Nova Scotia.
The Cherokee, had quite a lot of enemies like the iroqcois, seneco and creek, but they became well trading partners of the British in Augusta and Charleston south California. The tribe exchanged tools; weapons and other well manufactured good for their valuable deerskin.
Council houses were built with 7 sides for seven tribes to be able to come together and mutually agree upon their decisions. In council, each clan* could to sit in front of the wall. There were 7 chiefs, each selected by a clan ruled by the council and the councilors choose one chief. He made decisions about political and social matters for the tribe. A second chief was found, the war chief, an he was in charge of the war and leading of warriors into battle.
