The Cherokee people only had two ways of transportation, other than foot. It was canoes and dogs.
The Cherokee people made dugout canoes. . It was easy find supplies for canoes, because the area the Cherokee people lived in had a good amount of trees in most places. They hollowed the trunks of trees with hot coals. Then, the insides were scraped with sharp stones. Usually, birch trees were used for the canoes, because they were very light and the bark was waterproof. If there were no birch trees available enough for a log, they used another type of tree, and then covered it with the bark of a birch tree. They needed tree that were light because sometimes, if the river ended or became harder to paddle in, they would just pick up the canoe and walk until they could paddle again. The advantage of using canoes is they could be repaired with bark anywhere they go. Those who lived on the Appalachian region used canoes a bit more because on the Appalachian region had marshes and swamps which caused the land to sink. The sinking land caused the rivers to come out further. The Cherokee people used canoes so they wouldn't have to walk as much if they had to go on long hunting trips.
For lands they used dogs as pack animals. The Cherokee people had domesticated dogs. When they went hunting, they went hunting by foot. To carry their supplies, they attached a dog to a travois. A travois was a type of sled that consisted of two poles joined together with a couple rods. Using dogs as pack animals, they didn't have to carry supplies, which made it easier to hunt.
